Gap Professional acting as an employment agency are recruiting for an Accountant to work on the outskirts of Sherborne, Dorset. Our client deals with both practice and industry work and are offering an exciting and varied career.


You will be responsible for the bookkeeping, VAT, CIS, management accounts, statutory accounts and audit files for a number of entities including limited companies and partnerships within the property, retail, wholesale and consultancy sectors.


The annual salary is £28,000-£31,000pa depending on experience.

The working hours are 9.00am-5.00pm Monday to Friday. 

You will be expected to: 


Ensure all finance functions and accounting records are maintained and management accounts prepared accurately and in a timely manner 
Prepare CIS and VAT returns and ensure these are submitted on time 
Review the bookkeeping and payment runs of the finance assistants and provide constructive feedback 
Create statutory accounts with supporting year-end audit files where required for internal and external audit review 
Ensure all entities are compliant with all relevant tax and company laws 
Undertake project work as required 
Ensure that your CPD record is well maintained 
Provide holiday and sickness cover for other team members when required 
Report to your team leader 



We are looking for an individual who: 


Is a qualified accountant (or qualified by experience) with at least three years of relevant accounting/audit experience, ideally working in a practice or an audit environment 
Has experience of VAT, with knowledge of CIS being an advantage 
Has integrity, discretion and the ability to deal with confidential information 
Has excellent administration and communication skills (both written and verbal with attention to detail) 
Is tactful, diplomatic and approachable, with the ability to deal assertively with a wide range of people 
Has excellent IT skills, a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience of using accounting software 
Is flexible and willing to learn 
Enjoys working on their own or as part of a wider team, being a team player is key 
Is qualified to AAT Level 4
