gap personnel (operating as an employment business) are currently recruiting for a Late Shift Assistant Team Leader for our well known manufacturing client based at Sowton Industrial Estate in Exeter.

Reporting directly to the Team Leader you will provide support to the Team Leader to coordinate and oversea the manufacturing of the Metal Shop components and maintain quality control over items produced.

This role is the first step into a supervisory career path and requires a proactive, motivated and self-driven individual who is customer focused and results driven.


Duties as an Assistant Team Leader:

  • Ensuring production quality is maintained
  • Supervision of staff
  • Monitor and progress work within the department in line with the scheduled requirements
  • Assist supervision to maintain the holiday register
  • Assist supervision in conducting essential HR functions such as return to work interviews and shop floor inductions for new starters
  • Report disciplinary matters to the team leader
  • Assist team leader with carrying out staff appraisals
  • Responsibility for signing off completed work
  • Review manufacturing methods with Production Engineering and Research & Development
  • Input into allocation of manpower as required to meet the production plan
  • Arrange and manage overtime as required
  • Assist in risk assessment procedures and internal audits
  • Ensure staff are working in a safe environment and in a safe manner and that personnel training and risk assessment records are up to date and maintained
  • Provide cover for the team leader for planned and unplanned absence
  • Assisting in stock control exercises as required
  • Ordering consumables and fixings in line with requirements
  • Ensure any daily check sheets for machine maintenance, cleaning and process control are completed and verified
  • Ensure a good standard of housekeeping standards are maintained
  • Perform fire roll calls in the event of an emergency evacuation
  • Provide training and support to your team

About you:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Flexibility to carry out a wide-ranging role
  • Computer literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and use a range of measuring equipment
  • Able to lead by example and display a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Team player
