The purpose of the role:

Accountable for leading a shift in all operational activities. Accountable for achieving specified KPIs, and supporting the Shift Manager in the day to day operational tasks associated with the shift.  Responsible for managing, coaching and developing a team of operatives, who are driven to deliver high operational standards and become experts in the field of distribution. The role holder is also responsible for ensuring the shift is operationally fully compliant with all work instructions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effective operational management of the shift
  • Reporting, communicating and following up on daily KPI targets for the shift
  • Achievement of KPI targets and strives to improve/exceed
  • To work accurately and efficiently achieving productivity targets
  • Effectively building working relationships across shifts
  • Implementation and achievement of daily plan
  • Ensuring best practice
  • To oversee the usage of the Warehouse Management System (WMS) hardware within the team
  • Integrate WMS software to ensure accurate receipt/ replenishment/picking/ packing /despatch of all products
  • Adhere to Company policy with regards to both Health and Safety Legislation and Business Protection, and general site rules
  • Leading, managing and motivating the  team to ensure all goals  and core values are clear and embedded
  • Keeping the shift informed through clear communication
  • Recruiting, selecting and inducting of new employees
  • People management activities are completed on time and according to guidelines
  • Supporting and coaching team members against development goals set and delivery of people development plans
 
KEY DUTIES 
 

Business operations

  • Management and motivation of  the shift to deliver agreed targets and KPIs
  • Support the Shift Manager within specific tasks and projects
  • Contribute ideas to the overall distribution plan and People Plan ensuring teams are effectively engaged in the outputs
  • Promote and share best practice across departments in the distribution centre
  • Floor walks and control checks to ensure high operational standards are achieved( MBWA)
  • Ensure  compliance to all work instructions
  • Ensure distribution standards meet company guidelines
  • Ensure full compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and relevant legal requirements
  • Build strong cross functional relationships with other departments in the distribution centre

Customer Service

  • Ensure customer service measures are achieved through delivering professional excellence in customer service to our internal and external customers, acting on feedback
  • Continually assess store/ customer  feedback and initiate action plans accordingly – team  briefings reviewing
  • Support the Shift Manager to coach and develop team members to high levels of service
  • Map core values into all ways of working and ensure customer relationships reflect our values

People

  • Support the Shift Manager  in the recruitment, development and performance management of team
  • Support the Shift Manager to ensure all appraisals are carried out and documented with personal development plans in place
  • Support the Shift Manager in identifying  individuals with potential for growth – develop action plans to stretch and develop( Rising stars)
  • Support the Shift Manager  to identify underperforming team members and develop SMART action plans to improve performance
  • Completion of investigations as required
  • Lead by example the core values within the team and embed them into ways of working
  • Support the Shift Manager in the implementation of adequate manpower plans to ensure team is fully staffed in proportion to work, customer requirements and cost.
  • Support the Shift Manager to manage holiday entitlement to ensure the staff balance between DC requirements and staff entitlements throughout the year whilst ensuring there is  a consistent approach across all departments.
