Hours: Monday to Thursday 8.15am-5pm, Friday 8.15am-2pm


This position is to provide leadership by overseeing all functions and employees in the designated Value Stream to ensure KPI’s are achieved/exceeded.  You will participate as a member of the site leadership team having responsibility to achieve manufacturing performance KPI’s for the site and ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental compliance is met for the Value Stream.  As part of the role, you will be responsible for developing an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible team through personal leadership attributes.   You will also be required to support continuous improvement by identifying areas of deficiency and recommending appropriate changes in training, working practice and processes for the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day to day Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost Leadership throughout the Value Stream processes.  Instil the voice of the customer throughout each process to ensure all Operations have the customer requirements in mind, every day for every job.
  • Provide direction and leadership to a matrix organisation of direct and indirect reports ensuring that products are manufactured with the highest level of quality in a safe and timely manner that will meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Mentor and develop team members of the entire Value Stream Team including procurement, planning, manufacturing, quality control, quality engineering and customer services.
  • Listen, support, engage and encourage employee suggestions and input to achieve excellent results.
  • Maintain a safe work environment, a high level of safety awareness among associates, and implement 6S principles.
  • Oversees and manages Value Stream P&L, and proactively seeks opportunities to drive improvement of the operating results.
  • Conduct fact-based analysis using Lean techniques to create value and manage a Value Stream that eliminates waste and drives continuous process improvement related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Champion the implementation of Lean methods and philosophies in the Value Stream to drive continuous improvement and productivity gains.
  • Collaborate with other trained personnel in the areas of PPI/Lean to assist with implementation of various identified.
  • Provide updates to all levels on Lean activities, initiatives and progress using a variety of means.
  • Provides leadership guidance during Gemba walks.
  • Own and review Value Stream Key Performance Indicators (KPI) during daily management meetings.  Identifying gaps and implementing countermeasures.
  • Build strong alliances across all functions and is strategic liaison to Product Management, Sales, Customer Services, Design Engineering and Finance to meet Customer and Stock Holder commitments.
  • Establishes goals, set priorities and coordinates all related activities within the Value Stream to ensure drive and focus towards meeting or exceeding established common business objectives from the Site Strategic Plan and Budget.
  • Monitor, review and improves manufacturing and quality related activities and drives corrective and preventative actions. Focuses the team on using standardized work practices.
  • Maintain proper staffing and cross training levels, scheduling and organizing work assignments within the company policies and procedures.
  • Perform all job duties in a safe manner and complies with all company policies including safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform all job duties within the ISO standards, regulatory or statutory requirements.
  • Inventory control and management aligned to WIP, order book & forecast.

Experience, attributes & skills sought:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a technical production environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and management of manufacturing teams
  • Exposure to a LEAN manufacturing environment, ideally trained to Sigma 6 Green Belt
  • Recognised management qualification and technical qualification desirable
  • Use of Syspro (or equivalent ERP) and legacy business systems
  • Understanding of manufacturing metrics
