Team Leader  

Gap Personnel Group, operating as an employment business, are currently looking to recruit several team leaders for one our well-established clients based in Nelson. This position is a physically demanding role. The ideal candidate will have a good attitude to work. 

  1. Principal Purpose of the Job

Team Leaders are required to monitor and control the working environment, performance and activities in their production line. This includes the leadership and motivation of their team(s) on the production line in order to achieve production output, cost and quality targets in a safe manner.

  1. Key Objectives
  1. At the start of each shift, the team leader is given detailed confirmation of his or her targets for output together with the detailed customer specifications of the products to be produced.
  2. Complying with all Quality, Food Safety and Health and Safety requirements, the Team leader is responsible for maintaining a safe environment around his or her line and ensuring that all work on the line is carried out in a safe manner and in line with quality standards and minimising the risk of accidents. The target is zero defects or rework and zero accidents or near misses.
  3. The aim is to achieve or exceed the production output targets by
    • training and motivating staff; controlling performance and discipline and achieving a positive attitude through good communication
    • maintaining workflow and balancing the line to achieve optimal output with minimum of stoppages.
  4. Reviewing performance, capability and suitability of team members; identifying training requirements and providing the Shift Supervisor with updated training information and if applicable the risk assessment.
  5. Maintaining a clean and hygienic presentation (personally and for the team members) at all times including washing and sanitizing hands when going on to shop floor, changing overalls at required frequency, wearing correct ppe etc.
  6. Maintaining vigilance and reporting problems through the correct channels e.g. hazards and quality failures using the correct procedures to ensure safe environment and the satisfaction of customer requirements in terms of quality, quantity and delivery on time every time.
  7. Making changes to the machines within defined parameters (short of dealing with breakdowns) e.g. changing film and adjusting running rates in order to optimise throughput. NB on some lines this work is delegated through to the Machine Operators
  8. Working efficiently and effectively with other team-members to achieve these goals.

Job Requirement

Team Leaders are required to:

  1. lead and motivate a team of production staff through excellent communication, by example and leadership.
  2. read and interpret the Customers needs as laid down in the packing specification and issue clear written and oral instructions as necessary in order to achieve production targets safely.
  3. ensure that production lines run efficiently and effectively; with their team, components and packaging available from the start of the shift and machines that are set to maintain efficiency throughout the shift.
  4. to achieve and maintain production targets with maximum output and minimum stoppages.
  5. to be aware of Quality requirements as laid down in the company manual procedure.
  6. ensure that production staff receive on going training to enable them to perform their duties efficiently and effectively; recording the training as required.
  7. maintain a high standard of personal hygiene (personal and clothes) both individually and throughout the team.
  8. To maintain standards and suggest improvements for a safe working environment within an inclusive team atmosphere where individuals are recognised for their contributions.
  9. To contribute suggestions to improve quality and reduce waste.
  10. Carry out any other duties as may be required by the Management for the needs of the company or its employees.

Shift Pattern & Hourly Rates

Monday to Friday - £10.81 per hour

15:00 to 23:00 hrs.

37.5 paid hours per week; 30 minutes unpaid break each shift

Job Type
