Job Description
Quality Advisor
£28k - £35k per annum dependant on experience
Monday – Friday / Office Hours

Our client based in the Malpas area are currently looking to recruit a Quality Advisor on a full time, permanent basis. Our client is a small business so some flexibility from the candidate is ideal. Most of their production is based in China, this requires a lot of patience as you will quite have to operate remotely from the UK. It is not possible to visit the factory during production and the language barrier can delay responses or prevent understanding. If you haven’t worked in this way before you will need to be prepared for the challenge and will be supported by the business and the Manager in China who will also assist. For the right candidate this could really be a varied and rewarding role.
Performance Objectives
- Implement processes and procedures, but you will also need to undertake inspection and rectification work.
- Create product specs and research into new standards, but you will also need to attend trade shows talking to customers about product ranges.
- If a product is faulty, it quite often cannot be sent back to the factory, so choices have to be made around current stock levels, how long it will take to get a replacement shipment, is the product still saleable, etc?
- Creation and Maintenance of QA, Technical and Certification database for all divisional product portfolio, procedures and systems including product codes and barcodes. A QMS needs creating and putting in place and managing.
- Ensuring stock is in perfect condition for sale. Checking stock quality of products as they arrive in the warehouse making random checks. This is especially important on the first deliveries of new products. Maintain procedures to ensure inspection and reporting of quality issues for all existing and new divisional product portfolio.
- Provide assurance and consistency of divisional product and supply chain, by implementing systems designed to proactively check and monitor product quality and manufacturing procedures via factory auditing / assessments. Difficult to achieve as not able to easily get into factory and support is inconsistent and unreliable.
- Provide proactive support, supervision and guidance to all employees buying / selling divisional product portfolio in appropriate matters of Q/A, Technical, Certification and Packaging.
- Keep records of Quality Reports, statistical reviews, customer satisfaction and other relevant documentation. RED not in place currently. Would come as a result of creating and implementing a robust QMS.
- Liaise with external QA, Testing, Certification, Technical and Intellectual property organisations to ensure all divisional products and procedures meet legal requirements and appropriate certification.
- Ensure company compliance with all necessary legal obligations relating to divisional product portfolio supply, materials, packaging and waste / environmental regulations (this to include but not be limited to Prop65, Reach, WEEE etc). Responsibility for packaging declarations.
- Provide up to date specification documentation for all divisional product portfolio where required to support internal and external sales / marketing requirements.
- Proactively review and report to divisional Management Team on all Q/A, Technical, Certification and Environmental matters.
- Liaising with external agencies, you will support sales and marketing team with the development / production of materials to ensure professional representation of divisional activities in the marketplace. This will include things such as brochures, web sites, promotional gifts, workwear, exhibition stands/equipment and other useful sales/marketing aids.
- Provide support to the European Sales Manager on all QA, Technical and Certification matters both internally with divisional staff and externally through customer/supplier contact, where required.
- Managing quality area of the company’s business management software UNIX.
- Administer and support any IP and trade mark applications for the company.
- Any other duties as requested by your line manager.
- Lead audits (FSC & BSiF).
- Review artwork and technical documents prior to production and compare with submitted documents.
- Conduct supplier audits (remotely). What is the process, frequency, scope?
- Perform risk assessments. Which aspects of the business does this apply to? Is training required?
- Liaise with suppliers and communicate any product defects via a non-conformance process.
- Liaise with customers regarding any complaints/failures and using suitable problem-solving techniques implement corrective actions. Manufacturing sites need to support and demonstrate willingness to cooperate and implement changes as a result of detailed RCA.
- Keep up to date on environmental issues that may affect the business (EPR etc).
- Develop and train aspects of the QMS to departmental managers.
- Attend regular appraisals with line manager to review objectives and key activities.
- Hold scheduled quality reviews with the management team to cover key aspects of Quality, Environment, Regulatory and certification agenda points.
- Attend and support management reviews when required.
Person Specification
- Commercial awareness will be a big help.
- Happy to get involved in the wider business, roll up your sleeves up with the practical side of the job.
- Some flexibility to support business needs.
- Need a ‘Can do’ attitude and be willing to work outside of job scope.
- An interest in QA is required and experience of working in a similar role is essential.
- A keen eye for detail.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines, and at times under pressure.

Pay & Working hours

Overtime:

Key activities will include:
