Job Title: Technical CI Engineer – Mechanical Design
Location: Port Talbot, South Wales Salary: £45,000 + Bonus (Experience Dependent)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm (30-minute unpaid break)

Job Overview
A leading manufacturing site in South Wales is seeking a Technical Continuous Improvement Engineer with a mechanical design background. This hands-on role blends analytical office work with practical shop floor involvement, supporting day-to-day process challenges, driving medium-term efficiency projects, and contributing to long-term strategic initiatives.
The successful candidate will collaborate across production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to embed lean methodologies and deliver measurable improvements in safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Process Support
- Troubleshoot production bottlenecks and recurring issues
- Collect and analyse process data; generate performance reports
- Apply structured problem-solving tools (A3, 5 Whys, RCA, 8D)
- Stabilise processes and prevent recurrence in collaboration with operations teams
Continuous Improvement Projects
- Lead CI initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and cost
- Apply Lean tools: 5S, Kaizen, VSM, Standard Work, SMED
- Coach teams in CI practices and track project KPIs
Strategic & Long-Term Projects
- Support automation, digitalisation, and sustainability efforts
- Embed lean principles in new product introductions and capital projects
- Standardise best practices and drive cultural transformation
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Quality to improve defect prevention
- Work with Production to enhance OEE and throughput
- Coordinate with Maintenance on TPM and downtime reduction
- Collaborate with Engineering on process optimisation and equipment rollout
Qualifications & Experience
- HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field
- Proficiency in Solidedge, AutoCAD, 3D Modelling (required)
- Experience in manufacturing, process engineering, or CI roles
- Hands-on shop floor experience
- Strong knowledge of Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma, or TPS tools
- Proven track record of delivering operational improvements
- Understanding of DFA/DFM principles
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Teams
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
