We are seeking an experienced Head of Compliance & Safety to lead and oversee the delivery of compliance and safety functions across a hospital setting. This is a strategic leadership role, ensuring that all activities meet statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations while promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor compliance frameworks, audits, and policies across all departments.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental standards, and governance processes.
  • Oversee risk management, including risk registers, audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Provide assurance reporting to the Senior Leadership Team and Strategic Asset Services Director.
  • Lead ISO accreditation initiatives and maintain high compliance standards.
  • Work with regulators, enforcement agencies, and Trust colleagues to ensure effective compliance.
  • Provide visible leadership to compliance managers and staff, ensuring efficient resource use and workforce planning.
  • Champion equality, diversity, inclusion, and wellbeing across all areas of responsibility.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Health & Safety, Risk, or Compliance Management.
  • Professional qualification (e.g., CMIOSH, MIIRSM).
  • Extensive knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and compliance frameworks.
  • Senior-level experience in compliance and safety management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply governance frameworks and risk management processes.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of NHS compliance standards (HTMs, HBNs, CQC requirements).
  • Experience in healthcare or facilities management environments.
  • Post-graduate leadership/management qualification.

Working Conditions

  • Office-based with occasional emotional demands during incident investigations.
  • Flexible working hours to meet operational needs.
  • Participation in senior manager on-call rota.
