Job Title: MAC Operator

Location: Port Talbot, Wales Salary:

Pay: Up to £35,000 (depending on experience)

Job Type: Permanent

Full-Time: Days and Afternoons rotational shift pattern

Department: Pre-Press Reporting To: Pre-Press Manager Work Environment

Job Overview

A well-established manufacturing site in Port Talbot is seeking a Trainee MAC Operator to join its Pre-Press team. This newly created role supports ongoing business growth and succession planning. The successful candidate will receive full training to become a competent MAC Operator, contributing to the production of high-quality printed materials used in various consumer and healthcare products.

Key Responsibilities

Initial training responsibilities include:

  • Interpreting artwork requirements for the printing process
  • Communicating with customers to gain artwork approvals
  • Managing lithographic materials for production use
  • Preparing print boxes and issuing printing instructions
  • Manufacturing print plates

Once trained and signed off as competent, duties will expand to include:

  • Reviewing artwork using multiple design software platforms
  • Uploading/downloading artwork and proofs via FTP and customer systems
  • Inputting technical formulas for production sheets
  • Ordering necessary materials for the department
  • Maintaining digital artwork and plate archives
  • Monitoring production schedules for new product launches
  • Logging and storing proofing samples and artwork
  • Liaising with customers regarding print plate specifications and approvals
  • Coordinating trial artwork jobs with the Pre-Press Manager and Lead Printer

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English Language (Grades A-C)
  • Full training provided—no prior MAC experience required

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong colour differentiation ability (essential)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid IT proficiency
  • Experience in lithography or origination (desirable)
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
