Job description

Gap personnel are currently seeking a reliable, organised and proactive stores supervisor to join our well established client based in Oldbury.

This is a hands-on role that combines inventory management, materials handling, stock control, goods receipt and dispatch, and team supervision. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the stores function, maintaining accurate inventory records, supporting production requirements, and leading by example within the warehouse and stores environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily operation of the stores department, ensuring materials and components are available to support production requirements.
  • Lead by example and actively participate in stores activities, including goods receipt, stock put-away, picking, packing, and dispatch.
  • Manage and maintain accurate stock records using the company's inventory management system.
  • Carry out regular cycle counts and stock audits to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure all incoming goods are inspected, checked against delivery documentation, and correctly stored.
  • Coordinate the timely issue of materials, consumables, and components to production areas.
  • Monitor stock levels and raise replenishment requests to avoid shortages.
  • Organise and optimise storage locations to maximise efficiency and warehouse space utilisation.
  • Ensure all materials are clearly identified, correctly stored, and easily accessible.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping across all stores and warehouse areas.
  • Support production teams by ensuring urgent material requests are prioritised and fulfilled efficiently.
  • Train, support, and supervise stores personnel, ensuring workloads are effectively managed.
  • Work closely with Purchasing, Production, and Operations teams to ensure smooth material flow throughout the business.
  • Assist with continuous improvement projects aimed at improving stock control, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all company procedures relating to inventory management, quality, and Health & Safety.
  • Carry out daily safety checks and report any equipment, storage, or safety concerns to management.
  • Operate forklift trucks and other material handling equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in a Stores Supervisor, Warehouse Supervisor, or Stock Control role.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management and stock control processes.
  • Hands-on approach with a willingness to support operational activities when required.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making ability.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Forklift Truck Licence (essential).
  • Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, or Continuous Improvement principles would be beneficial.

Salary:

  • £16/h to £18 based on experience.

Working hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 08:00 to 16:15
  • Friday: 08:00 to 13:30
  • Day Shift Position
