Technical Manager – Caerphilly

Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 P/A

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Working hours: Monday – Friday

We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join a leading food manufacturing company based in Caerphilly.

The Role:

The Factory Technical manager will be the go-to person for all technical, quality & hygiene related factory issues, and will advise corrective actions where possible, whilst reporting to the Head of Technical.  They will ensure that all factory procedures are followed and will assist in the training and development of QA team/ tech team as required.

Main Duties:

  • To assist the Head of Technical in implementing and mentoring staff on the technical strategy on a day-to-day basis ensuring that all technical standards, customer codes of practice and food legislation are consistently adhered to allowing all products to be positively released.
  • To assist the Head of Technical in ensuring that HACCP is maintained within the factory and always reflects best practice.
  • To deputise for the Head of Technical in their absence.
  • To manage and maintain a high standard of general housekeeping in all areas.
  • Managing external and internal site audits, raising and communicating non-conformances and ensuring that effective and timely close out actions are implemented to prevent further incidents.
  • To assist the Head of Technical in the application and maintenance of the Food Safety Culture on site.
  • Monitoring both intake and finished product quality.  Reporting of out of specification results back to Production Team and Customers, whilst providing corrective actions.
  • To assist the Head of Technical in ensuring that the technical aspect of NPD is carried out diligently and in a timely manner.
  • To manage, coach and develop direct reports (such as compliance officer and QA / QC team) to make decisions and demonstrate a pro-active approach to problem- solving.
  • To support production to actively maintain technical standards advising on how to tackle issues that may compromise technical integrity.
  • To liaise with local authorities on all technical legislation to ensure company compliance as a food manufacturing site.
  • To actively manage product complaints downwards through the implementation of robust action plans which deliver results.
  • Managing the Glass, Hard Plastic & Ceramic register.  Ensuring that all new items are added as required.
  • Managing environmental swabbing, water, and product testing regime. Ensuring all testing is carried out as per schedule.
  • Purchasing for all Technical and Hygiene requirements.
  • Management and coaching of QA /QC team ensuring rotas are in place and technical tasks completed effectively and in a timely manner.
