gap donate £2300 to CHICS Wirral

As part of the gap personnel group’s 20th anniversary celebrations, the group has setup the gap charity foundation, with the aim to raise £20,000 for worthy charities around the UK in 2017.

CHICS (The Children’s Cancer Support Group) are based in the North West, covering Merseyside, the Wirral, North Wales and West Cheshire, providing support and information for parents of children with cancer.

They were chosen by the gap personnel group for the outstanding support that they have offered to Cameron Rowley, son of Driving Force’s own, Brenden Rowley. Brenden’s son, Cameron was diagnosed with Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour and the family have used the support network offered by Chics over the past 18 months, including a stay at the charity’s static caravan in Caernarfon.

The funds were raised by gap’s South West team, who took part in the Bath Half Marathon in late March.

South West Regional Director, Richard Thorne:

“When we decided to do the Bath Half Marathon , I asked all the team what charity they would like to raise for – unanimously, they wanted to show support for Brendan and Cameron, and after speaking to Brenden, he recommended the Wirral Children’s Cancer Support Group.

I must give huge credit to my team for the event, we had a total of 12 runners, most of whom had never ran more than 5k…thankfully all runners completed the run for a superb cause”.

“After meeting the team at CHICS, what became clear is that they are all unpaid volunteers, who have at some point been affected by their family suffering the illness of cancer.

As a result, they all wanted to help families that find themselves in a similar situation. They really struggle to raise funds, and when they have donations, they spend this on ensuring the families and children have events or trips to make memories and try to give them something else to focus on other than what they are going through.

What also came across is the £2,300 we donated will go directly to offering events to families and will make a significant difference.

Personally, I found the presentation very humbling and it puts a hugely differently perspective on life.

Thank you to all of the participants and thank you also to everyone that donated and have helped make a difference to CHICS Wirral.”
