Machine Operative

We’re looking for a Machine Operative to join our manufacturing team, operating a range of power presses and metal‑forming equipment to produce high‑quality standard and bespoke fixings.

⏱️ Working Hours & Pay

  • Monday to Friday – weekly rotating shifts:
    • 06:00–14:00 — £13.50 per hour
    • 14:00–22:00 — £15.53 per hour
  • Overtime available at enhanced rates

What You’ll Do

  • Operate Power Presses — Competently operate a range of power presses, metal‑forming and cutting equipment to manufacture standard and bespoke fixings to customer and business expectations.
  • Secondary Processes — Carry out additional tasks and processes required to meet customer requirements.
  • Production Accuracy — Manufacture the exact quantities required per order or production schedule.
  • Performance Monitoring — Monitor line speed, tool life, quality and equipment performance, providing timely feedback to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Material & Component Handling — Correctly identify, stack and pack components into Kanban bins/boxes and transfer them safely to downstream processes.
  • Scrap Management — Safely dispose of, segregate and record production and process scrap.
  • Machine Care — Keep equipment and tooling in good repair, carry out routine machine maintenance, and report issues promptly.
  • Consumables Control — Maintain adequate stock of consumables and packaging by requesting replenishment in good time.

Quality Responsibilities

  • Quality Procedures — Follow all quality procedures to ensure products meet required standards and tolerances.
  • Inspection — Complete first‑off, in‑process and last‑off inspections.
  • Right First Time — Ensure work meets required standards on the first pass.
  • Non‑Conformance — Report non‑conforming work and carry out corrective actions.

🛡️ Health & Safety

  • H&S Compliance — Comply with all company and legal health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Safe Working Practices — Follow site rules, safe systems of work and instructions from supervisors.
  • PPE Use — Wear appropriate protective clothing and PPE at all times.
  • Housekeeping — Maintain a clean and organised work area across the department and site.
  • PUWER Checks — Perform daily inspection and testing of safety devices as required.
  • Incident Reporting — Immediately report incidents, near misses or unsafe conditions.
  • Training Compliance — Only operate machinery for which you are trained or licensed.

🔧 Operational Excellence

  • Continuous Improvement — Promote and participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance efficiency and processes.
  • Performance Records — Maintain daily Measures of Performance.
  • Flexibility — Support other team members and cells when required to maintain customer service levels.
  • Additional Duties — Carry out other reasonable tasks as needed, following training where required.
