Payroll Officer
Competitive Salary
Monday - Friday / General Office Hours

Our client based in the Wrexham area is currently recruiting a Payroll Officer on a full time, permanent basis. We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Officer to take responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of payroll across the organisation. This role is critical in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across both monthly and fortnightly pay cycles. The postholder will manage payroll processing, statutory submissions, pensions administration, reconciliations, and payroll reporting. While time and attendance data is normally provided by the HR team, the Payroll Officer will have sufficient understanding of the process to provide cover when required. Having experience of working in a manufacturing or operational environment would be highly advantageous.
Performance Objectives
· Deliver accurate and timely end-to-end payroll processing for both monthly and fortnightly payrolls using Sage Payroll.
· Administer all statutory payroll requirements, including:
o FPS and EPS submissions
o Statutory payments and deductions
o Voluntary deductions e.g., Sports and Social Club, Union Membership, WHA
o Year-end payroll processes, including P60s, P45s, and P11Ds
o Employment allowances
· Maintain accurate payroll records in line with legislative and audit requirements.
· Process payroll reconciliations and prepare payroll-related journal entries for Finance.
· Administer pension contributions and ensure accurate reporting and compliance across various pension schemes.
· Support corporate as well as external audits by producing internal payroll reports and support ad hoc payroll analysis as required.
· Respond to payroll queries from employees and stakeholders in a professional and timely manner.
· Coordinate the administration of company benefits, including the company car scheme, persona medical insurance, opt-out allowances, Group Life Assurance and long-service awards ensuring accurate processing in line with company procedures.
· Ensure compliance by maintaining current employee vehicle documentation and insurance records, updating and adding employee details as necessary.
· Work collaboratively with HR and Finance to ensure data accuracy and effective payroll controls.
· Maintain awareness of time and attendance processes and provide operational cover when required.
· Support continuous improvement of payroll processes and controls e.g. automation of absence requests process using HRIS and support with user training.
Person Specification
· GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
· Proven experience delivering end-to-end payroll, including statutory payments, deductions, reconciliations, and reporting.
· Strong working knowledge of Sage Payroll, with the ability to independently run multiple payrolls.
· Experience processing both monthly and fortnightly payrolls.
· Sound understanding of year-end payroll activities, including P60s, P45s, P11Ds, FPS and EPS submissions.
· Intermediate Excel skills, including formulas, data manipulation, and report creation.
· Understanding of time and attendance processes (data typically supplied by HR).
· Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively with employees, HR, Finance, and management.
· Flexible and collaborative team player, willing to support across the payroll function.
· Payroll qualification and/or extensive payroll experience
