gap personnel are recruiting an experienced Customs Manager for a fast-growing UK retailer based in Plymouth. This is a key role within a busy Import Department handling over 16,000 containers per year.

Role Overview

You will lead the import customs team, ensure compliance with UK, Northern Ireland, and EU regulations, manage tariff classifications, oversee customs clearance, and support business growth through best practice and process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the import customs team
• Maintain compliance with CFSP, customs regulations, and documentation requirements
• Manage tariff classifications, ROI/EU entries, and clearance procedures
• Monitor import costs and identify efficiency improvements
• Provide training and guidance across the business
• Keep up to date with HMRC and EU regulatory changes

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years’ Customs Management experience
• Strong knowledge of UK, NI, and EU import regulations and customs procedures
• Experience with Customs Warehouse (CFSP), C88/E2 documentation, and deferment reporting
• Leadership skills and ability to manage a team
• Strong organisational, analytical, and IT skills (Excel essential)
