Mobile Cleaning Operative

Exmouth Local Authority | Full-time & Part-time roles £13.69 per hour
Shifts: Varying shifts, some weekends, seasonal roles, temp-to-perm & permanent opportunities


About the Role

We are seeking reliable and motivated Mobile Cleaning Operatives to support a range of environmental and street maintenance services across the local authority area. This role is essential in helping us keep public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors.

You’ll work across multiple locations, ensuring high standards of cleanliness in streets, public toilets, bins, and open spaces. This is a hands-on, outdoor role suitable for individuals who enjoy practical work and take pride in maintaining community environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Street Cleaning: Sweeping streets, litter picking, clearing debris, and ensuring public pathways remain clean and safe.
  • Bin Servicing: Emptying public litter bins, replacing liners, and reporting damaged or overflowing bins.
  • Public Toilets: Cleaning, sanitising, restocking supplies, and ensuring good hygiene standards in public facilities.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Assisting with basic grounds duties, including leaf clearing, weed removal, and keeping parks and communal areas tidy.
  • Mobile Work: Travelling between sites using provided transport or your own vehicle (depending on assignment).
  • Seasonal Cleaning Tasks: Supporting additional duties during peak seasons (e.g., summer events, autumn leaf fall, winter gritting support).
  • Reporting Issues: Identifying and escalating hazards, vandalism, fly-tipping, or required repairs.
  • Health & Safety: Following all safety procedures, manual handling guidance, and wearing appropriate PPE.

Requirements

  • Previous cleaning, environmental services or maintenance experience is helpful but not essential.
  • Physically able to carry out manual, outdoor tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to work varying shifts, including some weekends.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid UK driving licence may be required for mobile rounds (role-dependent).
