Position: Manufacturing Operator- X- Ray Department
Location: Sowton Industrial Estate, Exeter, EX2
Employment Type: Full-Time | Shift-Based
Shifts: 06:00am – 14:00pm / 14:00pm – 22:00pm (on rotation) or Nights 22:00pm-06:00am
Pay Rate: £15.18 per hour
Play a Critical Role in Aerospace Safety
Join Howmet’s X-Ray (Inspection) Department and become part of the team responsible for ensuring the structural integrity of high-performance aerospace components. In this department, you’ll use advanced radiographic technology to inspect precision castings and detect internal defects—helping guarantee that every component leaving our facility meets the highest aerospace safety standards.
This is a detail-focused role at the heart of quality assurance, where precision, responsibility, and teamwork make a real impact.
️ What You'll Be Doing
- Follow strict Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) and radiation safety procedures at all times
- Conduct radiographic (X-ray) inspections on aerospace castings to detect internal defects
- Load, position, and secure components in X-ray cabinets or inspection systems
- Interpret X-ray images and radiographs to identify discontinuities such as porosity, cracks, or inclusions
- Record inspection results accurately within quality documentation systems
- Ensure all components meet customer and aerospace quality specifications
- Work closely with quality engineers and production teams to resolve inspection findings
- Maintain X-ray equipment and inspection areas in accordance with operational procedures
- Rotate across inspection stations within the department
- Safely handle and move castings using lifting aids and correct manual handling techniques
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and quality investigations where required

- Ability to follow strict procedures and quality standards
- Physically capable of handling components safely using approved lifting practices
- Reliability and a strong work ethic
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):
- Experience in radiographic inspection
- Familiarity with X-ray or digital radiography systems
- Understanding of aerospace casting defects and inspection criteria
- Previous manufacturing or quality inspection experience
