Forklift Mechanic
South Petherton
gap personnel are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Forklift Mechanic / Plant Maintenance Engineer to join their team in South Petherton, Somerset.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and self-motivated mechanic to take ownership of a dedicated workshop, maintaining and servicing a fleet of 21 side-loading Lancer Boss forklifts. You'll be responsible for planning your own workload, carrying out inspections, servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance to ensure the fleet remains safe, reliable and operational.
The Role
As the onsite Forklift Mechanic, you will be responsible for:
- Managing the maintenance and serviceability of the company's fleet of 21 forklifts.
- Organising and prioritising your own workload within the workshop.
- Liaising closely with the Operations and Logistics teams to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption.
- Carrying out routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
- Repairing forklifts and ensuring they are returned to service safely and efficiently.
- Identifying potential machine failures and implementing preventative solutions.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop environment.
- Managing spare parts stock and ordering replacement parts when required.
- Completing accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Assisting with general facilities maintenance tasks when required.
About You
We're looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience maintaining forklifts, side loaders and/or plant equipment.
- Strong mechanical, electrical and hydraulic fault-finding skills.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills.
- The ability to work independently and manage their own workload.
- A proactive approach to preventative maintenance.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a wider team.
- A Forklift Truck licence (desirable but not essential).

Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a mechanic (required).
- Experience working with forklifts, side loaders or plant machinery is highly desirable.
