Grounds Maintenance Operative
Location: Monmouthshire
Pay Rate: £13.26 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday | Annualised Hours Scheme (43 hours per week March–October, 37 hours per week November–March)
gap personnel are recruiting on behalf of a client for a Grounds Maintenance Operative to join their Neighbourhood Services team in Monmouthshire.

This is a varied, hands-on position where you'll help maintain parks, open spaces, schools, cemeteries, sports facilities, highways and commercial sites, ensuring they remain safe, clean and well-presented for residents and visitors.
The Role
As a Grounds Maintenance Operative, you'll primarily carry out grounds maintenance duties while also supporting wider Street Services operations when required. You'll work as part of a dedicated team delivering high-quality services across Monmouthshire.
Key Responsibilities

Grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on machinery.

Maintaining parks, open spaces, schools, verges and contracted sites.

Maintaining shrub beds, flower displays and landscaped areas.

Marking and maintaining sports pitches and recreational facilities.

Landscaping and environmental improvement works.

Basic arboricultural duties.

Emptying litter bins and carrying out litter picking.

Responding to fly-tipping incidents and following correct evidence collection procedures.

Assisting with grave digging and cemetery duties following appropriate training.

Carrying out daily vehicle and machinery safety checks.

Ensuring all equipment is operated safely and correctly.

Working in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.

Providing excellent customer service and representing the organisation professionally.

Supporting colleagues to ensure effective service delivery.
The successful candidate may also be required to assist during emergency situations, including flooding, snow clearance and storm response, as part of a standby rota.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:

A current, clean UK driving licence (ability to tow up to 3.5 tonnes is desirable).

Previous grounds maintenance experience or experience in a similar outdoor environment.

A strong work ethic and pride in maintaining high standards.

The ability to work independently and use their own initiative.

Good team working skills.

A willingness to undertake training and develop new skills.

Flexibility to work outside normal hours when required, including emergency response and bank holiday standby.

A good understanding of Health & Safety responsibilities.
