JOb Title: Yard Operative
Location: Ledbury, HR8
Pay Rate: £15.31 per hour + £40 Attendance bonus per week
Contract: Temporary – Seasonal
Length: 10 weeks with potential to be ongoing
Start date: Mid-June 2026 until end of August 2026
Role Summary:
gap personnel Gloucester branch is currently recruiting for the Yard Operative to support our client based in Ledbury, Herefordshire.
Yard Operative is responsible for managing and optimising the flow of vehicles on site, including raw fruit delivery lorries and those associated with other production processes such as fermentation. This role requires coordination with multiple departments, including Production Planning, Team Leaders, and the Gatehouse, to ensure smooth scheduling of lorries. Effective communication and quick adjustments to vehicle flow will be essential for maintaining site efficiency, particularly during peak seasons.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Gatehouse to implement and manage the new booking-in and out system for all lorries (both raw fruit and fermentation-related).
- Work closely with Production Planning and Team Leaders to ensure that vehicle flow aligns with production schedules and avoids bottlenecks at intake or fermenting processes.
- Direct traffic around the site to the correct unloading and loading areas for both fruit intake and fermentation-related deliveries.
- Proactively manage vehicle timing and spacing, ensuring a smooth transition between different production processes.
- Adjust lorry schedules based on real-time changes in production, avoiding unnecessary wait times or congestion.
- Maintain a clear line of communication with Forklift Operators, Milling Operators, and Fermentation Teams to ensure that the yard operates in harmony with internal needs.
- Log all vehicle arrivals, departures, and scheduled bookings in the system, ensuring accuracy for planning and traceability. Would the gatehouse do this?
- Monitor and manage site access for all vehicles, ensuring that site safety, security, and traffic rules are adhered to.
- Support the Gatehouse team by monitoring the overall traffic flow and identifying potential improvements in the booking system.
Key Metrics:
- Booking efficiency: All vehicles scheduled and processed on time with minimal delays.
- Traffic coordination: Smooth flow of vehicles without congestion, even with multi-departmental traffic.
- Communication: Clear, timely updates between Gatehouse, Production, Fermentation, and Logistics teams.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in logistics, yard planning, or traffic coordination - ideally in a manufacturing or agricultural setting.
- Strong ability to communicate across teams and manage multiple schedules simultaneously.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing operational conditions and make real-time decisions.
- Proficiency in using scheduling tools or systems (e.g., booking system, spreadsheets, handheld devices).
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.
- Experience in food production or a seasonal operation is a plus.

Please note it’s a set requirement to attend these shifts, adjustments to these shifts will not be made.
Pay Rate:
- £15.31 per hour + *Attendance Bonus = £40 per full week attended *(payable on the last week of assignment)
