The Company

We are working with a highly successful and growing construction and manufacturing specialist based in Winkleigh, Devon. The business designs, fabricates, and installs complex stainless steel structures and components for large-scale food manufacturing facilities across the region.

With a brand-new manufacturing hub currently under development, alongside a strong pipeline of secured work and recent contract wins, the company is continuing to expand. As part of this growth, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Lead Fabricator to strengthen their workshop team.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a hands-on leadership position combining high-quality fabrication work with team supervision and coordination.

You will play a key role in delivering complex stainless steel projects to exacting standards, while supporting and guiding apprentices, operatives, and subcontract labour.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders
  • Cut, shape, and form stainless steel using a range of machinery including shears, presses, and laser equipment
  • Carry out MIG and TIG welding to a high standard
  • Assemble components using welding, bolting, and fabrication techniques
  • Inspect and measure materials and finished products to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of apprentices, operatives, and subcontractors
  • Allocate time and resources effectively to support project delivery and cost tracking
  • Repair or replace defective components where required
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe working environment
  • Collaborate with designers and project managers to meet deadlines
  • Lead by example and uphold company standards, values, and behaviours

About You

We are looking for a skilled and reliable fabricator with strong experience in stainless steel manufacturing, ideally within food production or another regulated environment.

You will have:

  • Proven experience in a fabrication role within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong MIG and TIG welding skills
  • Experience working with stainless steel
  • The ability to confidently read and interpret technical drawings
  • A hands-on, positive, and professional approach
  • High attention to detail and pride in your work
  • A strong commitment to health and safety

Desirable:

  • Experience within food production or hygienic environments
  • IPAF certification
  • Forklift licence
  • Telehandler licence
