Medical Typist

Location: Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group
Department: Patient Services Hub
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm (37.5 hours per week)
Contract: Temporary / Ongoing (subject to client requirements)

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced and highly accurate Medical Typists to support the Patient Services Hub. The role involves the transcription and typing of clinical correspondence across a range of medical specialties, ensuring all documents are produced accurately, professionally, and within required timescales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Type clinical letters, reports, and correspondence from digital dictation or recorded notes.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, grammatically correct, and formatted to NHS standards.
  • Manage and prioritise workloads to meet strict deadlines.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information in line with GDPR and NHS policies.
  • Review completed documents for accuracy before submission.
  • Support consultants, clinicians, and administration teams with correspondence requirements.
  • Update and maintain electronic patient records and relevant databases.
  • Liaise with clinical and administrative staff regarding document queries and corrections.
  • Adhere to all information governance and data protection procedures.

Essential Requirements

  • Excellent typing speed and accuracy.
  • Previous experience in an administrative, secretarial, or typing role.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.

Desirable Requirements

  • Previous NHS or healthcare administration experience.
  • Experience of medical terminology and clinical correspondence.
  • Knowledge of patient administration systems.
  • Audio typing or digital dictation experience.
