Job Title: CNC Setter Operator
Location: Chorley
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Day Shift (early finish Friday) Monday -Thursday 08:00-16:30 / Friday 08:00-13:00
Pay Rate : up to £18.00 /hr
Main Purpose of Role
The CNC Setter / Engineer is responsible for programming, setting, and operating CNC MILLING machines to manufacture both existing and new components. This is a hands-on role requiring active machine operation, quality inspection, and continuous process monitoring.
The role also involves preparing machines and work areas for production, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, and supporting supervisory duties, including providing cover for the Machine Shop Manager when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up CNC milling machines for new products and varying production requirements
- Change and set tooling as required (lathe setting experience advantageous)
- Program and adjust machine controls, including part processes
- Monitor machine operations to ensure accuracy and identify faults or deviations
- Conduct first-off inspections using precision measuring instruments (e.g. micrometers, vernier calipers)
- Perform in-process inspections and take critical measurements to maintain quality standards
- Make necessary adjustments to machines and processes to ensure components meet specifications
- Carry out general manual machining and finishing tasks across a range of components
- Prepare machines and work areas for operators, including calibration and setup
- Support production efficiency through continuous monitoring and improvement
- Provide supervisory support and cover for management when required
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience setting and operating CNC milling machines
- Experience with CNC lathes is advantageous
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and assembly diagrams
- Experience in product and production inspection
- Knowledge of production process evaluation and improvement
- Familiarity with machined and fabricated components
- Good IT and computer skills
- Strong communication skills across all levels
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
- Previous supervisory experience is desirable
- Experience with Hurco WinMax and Fanuc controls is advantageous, but not essential.
