Job Title: Metal Polisher
Location: Chorley
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Day Shift (early finish Friday) Monday -Thursday 08:00-16:30 / Friday 08:00-13:00
Pay Rate: up to £16.00 per hour
Reporting To: Machine Shop Manager / Supervisor
Main Purpose of Role
The Metal Polisher is responsible for improving the appearance and surface finish of metal components to meet required specifications. This is a hands-on role involving the use of manual polishing machines and abrasives to remove defects and achieve high-quality finishes, including mirror and brushed finishes.
The role requires attention to detail, strong practical skills, and the ability to consistently deliver high standards of workmanship across a variety of materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Polish brass, aluminium, and stainless-steel components to high-quality finishes
- Operate a range of manual polishing machines and spindles
- Use a tube centreless machine to achieve required surface finishes
- Remove surface defects such as scratches, dents, and imperfections
- Select and use appropriate abrasive belts and materials based on component requirements
- Achieve a variety of finishes, including mirror and brushed finishes
- Inspect components to ensure they meet required quality standards
- Liaise with the Machine Shop Manager to ensure work is completed on time
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, including equipment upkeep
- Follow all health and safety procedures when operating machinery
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a metal polishing or similar role
- Strong attention to detail with experience in product inspection
- Experience working within production environments
- Knowledge of polishing processes, including evaluation and improvement techniques
- Ability to follow detailed component specifications
- Good communication skills across all levels
- Ability to work independently and use initiative
