Job description
Shift Manager
Salary: Up to £30,000
Shifts: Rotational – 6am–2pm and 2pm–12am, Monday to Friday
Location: Pontyclun
A well‑established FMCG manufacturing business is seeking a proactive and experienced Shift Manager to lead all operational activity within the department. This role requires a strong people manager who can drive performance, uphold exceptional quality and safety standards, and ensure efficient labour utilisation across a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee all department operations, ensuring full compliance with health & safety standards.
- Maintain exceptional product quality, safety, and service levels across all production lines.
- Monitor hourly production performance (OEE) and publish line efficiency updates.
- Ensure all products run at or above standard speeds, identifying and implementing improvements.
People Management
- Lead, motivate, and manage the packing team, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Train and develop staff to meet operational and quality requirements, maintaining accurate training documentation.
- Manage labour planning and ensure appropriate cover for all absences.
- Oversee time & attendance, including annual leave, in line with company guidelines.
Quality & Compliance
- Take ownership of product quality, ensuring “right first time” standards across all lines.
- Monitor product weight control and liaise with relevant departments to address variances.
- Maintain excellent GMP standards, ensuring the department is audit‑ready at all times.
- Ensure machine faults, maintenance needs, and any deviations are reported promptly.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead daily team meetings to review KPIs and performance.
- Present shift performance at daily management meetings, including OEE, waste, labour, and downtime.
- Support new product launches, ensuring staffing, machinery, and quality requirements are met.
- Drive lean manufacturing initiatives and support continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain and develop 5S standards across the department.
End‑of‑Shift Management
- Ensure all end‑of‑shift routines are completed to a high standard, including cleaning, waste processing, and paperwork submission.

Key Skills & Experience
- Experience within FMCG manufacturing
- Proven success managing large teams across all aspects of people management.
- Strong understanding of H&S and quality reporting.
- Demonstrated experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan ahead.
- Strong IT skills and experience using production machinery.
- Ability to build strong working relationships across the business.
